On August 27, 2006, Shri Mataji graciously permitted the yogis to offer a simple puja to Her in Her home in Calabasas, in celebration of Shri Ganesha Chaturthi.
About a hundred yogis, dressed in all shades of orange and red, gathered under the twilight as the setting sun cast a burnished, golden glow on the Santa Monica Mountains that surround Mother’s house. The silence deepened and chaitanya filled the air as we waited for Mother to descend from Her room.
Shri Mataji appeared around 7:30 pm, in all Her dignity, in a pale coral sari, and moved gracefully to Her living room. Surrounded by Her family and Her Sahaj children, She received the aarti and ooti. To the accompaniment of the bhajans, the children and yuva shakti drizzled Her holy feet with red rose petals. While the yogis sang ‘Tujya Pujani” Mother blessed everyone with her gaze. The room filled with cool breeze as She accepted offerings of prasad, terra cotta Ganesha statues, and a gardenia. Her tiny great-grandson, Sumantra, pressed some rose petals into Her palm.
The sweet puja ended too quickly, but the yogis lingered on the terrace to meditate and absorb the vibrations and the children expressed their Ganesha principle by bouncing en masse on the trampoline in the backyard. Shri Ganesha Chaturthi commemorates the birth of Ganesh and is celebrated in India every year. One long-time yogi remembered hearing Shri Mataji say that for Sahaja Yogis, Ganesha Chaturthi represents the awakening of the Ganesha principle in the whole of humanity.
